1395880_10151935718947597_1639099117_n(1)Lanie Zipoy is a Memphis-born, New York-based producer. She has studied and worked in many fields – genetics, fashion, the healing arts, and sports. She has also served as an award-winning volunteer tutor for over 1,000 New York City children through East Harlem Tutorial Program and New York Cares. Her diverse interests have led her to produce and curate theatrical projects on a variety of subjects.

Her indie film credits include the feature April Flowers (directed by Christopher Tedrick and starring Celina Jade and Keir Dullea), the feature documentary Dog Camp; the short film Kid Sister and Ben Barenholtz’s feature film Alina (post-production), starring Russian award-winning actress Darya Ekamasova. Lanie also produced George R. Carr’s experimental short film A Body Without A Head (New FilmMakers, Soho House) and served as publicist for Antonia Bogdanovich’s My Left Hand Man and Joel Fendelman’s Band of Sisters. She is the founder of DAMN! Film Series.

Her theater credits include Laura Marks’ Bethany, starring America Ferrera (Associate Producer, Women’s Project); Recent Cutbacks’ KEVIN!!!!!; Mari Brown’s 23 Feet in 12 Minutes (New Orleans and AFO Fest); Mac Rogers’ Universal Robots (Manhattan Theatre Source, ITBA’s Best Off-Off Broadway Play and 4 New York Innovative Theatre Awards nominations, including Outstanding Production); Jelena Kajgo’s Realists (HERE); Rosemary Moore’s Side Street, directed by Ian Morgan; Michael Niederman’s The Riverside Symphony (Planet Connections Theatre Festivity, nominated for 7 festival awards, including Outstanding Overall Production); Jeffrey Pfeiffer’s The Battle of Spanktown (New York International Fringe Festival); and the Brooklyn premieres of Caroline, or Change (nominated for the New York Innovative Theatre Award for Outstanding Musical) and August Wilson’s Jitney. Lanie produced 7 Sins in 60 Minutes, a collaboratively created devised piece by Cheryl L. Davis, Chisa Hutchinson, Anne Phelan, Natalia Naman, Melisa Tien, Paula Cizmar, Olga de la Fuente and Melanie Sutherland, at HERE and the Philly Fringe. She has commissioned plays by Bekah Brunstetter, Cheryl Davis, Paula Caplan and Andrea Lepcio.

Lanie was the co-founder and producing director of Voices Inside/Out, a theatrical exchange program that supports the playwriting program and the professional playwriting residency at a medium security prison in Kentucky and presents the short plays written by inmates in New York City. Participating actors included Michael Shannon, Michael Chernus, Ashlie Atkinson, Teddy Sears, John Finn, Ron Canada and many more.

Lanie edits the Works by Women blog and is a contributor to The Huffington Post. Lanie was also a Time Warner Foundation Fellow of the 2012-2014 Lab at Women’s Project Theater, NYC. Her novel Me and the Moon was one of six finalists for The Write Stuff through MTV Books/Simon & Schuster.
